Arson unit investigating after body found at Calgary apartment fire

The Calgary Police Service’s arson unit is investigating a fire that started Monday morning after firefighters found a body at the scene in Radisson Heights.

According to the police, the arson unit was called after a deceased person at an apartment building in the 2600 block of 16 Avenue SE Emergency crews responded to a fire at the building, after which they were called shortly before 07:00.

According to the police, the person’s cause of death and its possible connection to the fire have not been determined. Investigators were still identifying the deceased and contacting their next of kin later Monday morning.

Earlier Monday, firefighters also responded to a structure fire at the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association located at 917 Center Avenue NE around 4:30 am.
