City police arrest man for randomly assaulting people in downtown core

Calgary police have arrested a man they say randomly assaulted at least 10 people in the city’s downtown area during the Tuesday morning commute.

Just after 9am, police tweeted a warning to the public about a man attacking people indiscriminately.

We are warning the public about a man who this morning randomly assaulted at least 10 people and is currently wanted by the police,” the tweet reads.

“Anyone who sees this individual is advised not to approach and call 911.”

The tweet included two photos of a thin, Black man dressed in a blue jacket with a white collar, dark pants and a hat with a large blue plume.

Around 12:30 p.m., police arrested a suspect on 3rd Avenue and 1st Street SE after a foot chase.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, police said all injuries sustained during the assaults were minor.

The attacks are the latest in a spate of serious, random assaults in the city in recent months, many of them in the city centre.
